The huipiles featured here come from Pantelhó, a Tzotzil & Tzeltal Maya community in the highlands of Chiapas, a region known for its colourful textile traditions. This collection was purchased directly from artisan women from Pantelhó at markets in the nearby city of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

The base fabrics of these huipiles are handwoven on traditional backstrap looms before being decorated with intricate embroidery and woven motifs. Pantelhó textiles are recognisable for their use of vivid colours with geometric and symbolic designs worked into the fabric. Contemporary Tzotzil weavers continue to experiment with bright colours and evolving designs.
